Business Summary
My name is Joseph Hunt and I am an experienced stonemason. I qualified in 1998 and worked for a prestigious company employed by The National Trust. I have worked on numerous historic buildings including the British Museum, Salisbury Cathedral and Waddesdon Manor. I established Joseph Hunt Stonemasonry in France in 2009. I am also a fully insured general builder and have a team of experienced trades who work alongside me.
My work includes full renovations, project management and all aspects of building work. I use my skills as a craftsman to sympathetically restore or create stonework in-keeping with the age and character of a building, including traditional repointing.
I am passionate about building restoration and give all contracts the highest care and consideration.

Our new roof
“We are delighted with our new roof. We have a very old house with a slightly wavy roof (which we like!). Joe, Paul and Jacob worked wonders, preserving the character of the roof whilst making it very new and smart. They are truly professionals at a fair cost. We recommend them unconditionally.”

Replace wooden lintel to fireplace with stone
“These works, which were not easy, were carried out to a high standard. The approach to the job and the general demeanour was first rate. Joe and his team could not have been more helpful. A hearty recommendation from me.”

TRANSFORMATION BY REPOINTING
“We spent a lot of time researching good local artisans and chose Joseph because of his skills and finished effects. Our traditional, stone-built house has a very pretty facade at the front, but the rear was in need of complete scraping out and repointing, together with additional barn areas. Jo and his team were fantastic - fast, courteous and professional - the final effects transformed our house and barn and they removed every single piece of rubbish and rubble.
They used traditional lime methods which matched well with the existing stone. We have extensive "before and after" photos.”

Excellent service
“From original query to Final installation I can highly Recommend Joe to carry out any stonemason works. Very fast to come and quote in person and explained each stage of the work. He carried out the work while I was out of the country and kept me up to date with every step and sent photos of each step as well. I was so impressed I asked him to do a second job. I was delighted with my 2 new solid stone fireplaces. Especially when one has a mantle span of 2meters. It wasnt an easy job and I cant thank him enough for his work. Highly recommend his services.”

Stone Walling & paving
“We are very pleased with Joe Hunt’s work which was carried out professionally, on time and to a fair price. The job comprised rebuilding a stone wall with new copings, creating new steps and a path to a traditional Charentaise property. He followed our brief to the letter and expertly blended the old with the new. We would not hesitate to employ him again. ”

Renovation of Ancient French Bread Oven
“This is the fourth job Joseph Hunt will have completed for us. Previous jobs include repairing a cracked lintel on our large Charentaise fireplace, a full stone window reveal inserted into a dark bathroom with no natural light, and replacement of a large oak beam and corner stones above a hayloft door. Now that we have met Joe and witnessed his passion for a professionally completed job, we would not have anyone else working on our property for this type of work.”

Creating of Stone Window Surrounds
“Joseph Hunt was asked to create stone window surrounds and to fit windows in-keeping with our style of property. Joseph and his team were excellent; we had a narrow window of opportunity for the work and Joe delivered. I would recommend this artisan.”

Extensive Stone Creation and Repair
“Joseph Hunt has a natural affinity with stone. His work is always carried out to a high standard and his sympathetic use of materials allows the finished product to blend in well with older stone. Joseph has a good rapport with us and understands what we are looking for. Joseph Hunt is a craftsman with stone.”

This project involved the rebuilding of an existing window and cladding around the opening with Pierre de Taille to finish.
This project entailed the raising of wall levels, pointing support post replacement and 3 part lintel.
The photos show the stages of construction of a new fireplace in parking / breeze block followed by rail and plaster boarding and the integration of an Oak little to finish off the new fireplace with a mantle piece feature

Me busy working on the Pierre de Taille for a clients property in the Charente.
On this project I repaired the cracked window surround by replacing the damaged stonework with a new stone little and rebuilt the opening back up in stone.
